It's rare for me to find myself at a loss for words when it comes to the topic of ageism in advertising, but this 'Take on Today' spot for AARP pretty much rendered me speechless.
All I was left wondering was, "Who is that guy, and how old is he?" Google quickly identified the spokesperson in this ad as James 'J. Ivy' Richardson II, a hip-hop poet from Chicago. He's 42, so he'll be eligible for AARP membership in eight short years.
Et tu, AARP? With all the great mature actors, writers, poets, and performers at your disposal, you had to hire a guy who's 42?
